To start the "Netcr@cker" program, follow the setup instructions below.
Macintosh Setup
1. Drag the "Netcr@cker for Mac" folder to your hard disk icon. The folder and the files it contains will be copied to your hard disk (approximately 1Mb).
2. Double-click the new "Netcr@cker for Mac" folder on your hard disk.
3. Double-click the "Netcr@cker" icon to start the program. You must leave the CD in your computer's CD-ROM drive while using the program.
PowerMacintosh Setup
1. Drag the "Netcr@cker for PowerMac" folder to your hard disk icon. The folder and the files it contains will be copied to your hard disk (approximately 1Mb).
2. Double-click the new "Netcr@cker for PowerMac" folder on your hard disk.
3. Double-click the "Netcr@cker" icon to start the program. You must leave the CD in your computer's CD-ROM drive while using the program.
Macintosh & PowerMacintosh QuickTime™ 2.1 Setup
You will need QuickTime™ version 2.1 or later, which is included on this CD-ROM. If you do not have QuickTime™2.1 or later please follow these instructions:
1. Double-click the "QuickTime™2.1" folder on the CD-ROM to open it.
2. Drag the "QuickTime™" and "QuickTime™ PowerPlug" icons to your hard disk's "System Folder" icon.
3. Restart your computer.
How to Use Netcr@cker: A Mini-Guide
1. It is recommended that you review the "About Netcr@cker" chapter .
2. To go one step forward, click the “Next” arrow pointing to the right located on the right lower corner of the screen.
To go back to the beginning of a screen, click the “Back” arrow pointing to the left located to the left of the “Next” arrow.
3. You can go back to the Main Menu from anywhere in the lesson by clicking the "MM" button located on the upper right corner of the screen.
4. To conduct a word search, click the “Find” arrow located above the "MM" button. To display the index, click the “Index” arrow located to the left of the “MM” button.
5. To adjust the volume and/or cancel the lesson narration, click the “Volume” button located under the “MM” button.
6. You can "tag" any screen in the lesson by clicking the upper left-hand corner of the screen. To display the list of tagged screens, click the “Tag” arrow” located to the left of the “MM” button.
7. Use the Progress Map (located on the right of the screen) to:
* move back and forth within a chapter's screens.
* see which screen you're currently in (represented by a square surrounded
by a red border).
* see which screens you haven't entered yet (represented by a white square).
* see which screens you've already entered (represented by a brown
square).
* see the name of a screen, by moving the cursor over a square.
8. The cursor's default shape is an arrow. During the lesson, the cursor will change its shape, indicating what you can do in each area of the screen:
hand shaped cursor: you can touch/click whatever the cursor is on.
hand shaped cursor with a cross: you've reached the end of this screen.
